3D detector development
German title: | 3D-Detektor-Entwicklung
Acronym: | TRIDENT | |
Duration: | 1st October 2017 - 31st March 2020
Description: | The developments in TRIDENT were aimed at particularly radiation-hard and compact sensors for high-energy radiation, with simultaneously small structure sizes of individual sensitive zones (pixels) of a sensor array. The goal was to establish a 3D technology platform. To this end, a new type of 3D cube detector was compared with conventional 3D radiation detectors already in use at CERN. Trenches between the individual pixels lead to better isolation of the pixels from each other and enable the fabrication of detectors that are modular after production and variable in size and shape. In addition, novel 3D drift detectors could be tested by using 3D structuring.
