Scientists at the CiS Research Institute are developing compact industrial quantum sensors with a tiny diamond at their heart. These synthetic diamonds with a manipulated atom in the crystal lattice allow high-precision measurement of magnetic fields.
During the symposium “Sensing with Quantum Light” at the Physikzentrum Bad Honnef, which ended yesterday, the CiS Research Institute will present its current results on the detection of single light quanta and magnetic field sensors using diamonds in two papers.
The joint project DiaQuantFab started this summer (see news from 24.05.2019).
In this project, the latest research results are to be transformed into first prototypes. These allow a surface analysis of new magnetic materials as well as precise magnetic scanning for industrial position sensors.
Quantum communication with entangled photons is increasingly becoming an important field of research – not only at the CiS Research Institute. The generation and detection of the individual pairs of light quanta is the greatest challenge for the researchers.
