The aim of the new market-oriented project New Refractive Index Sensor (BZS) is to develop a novel compact opto-electronic component for a measuring system for highly accurate relative measurement of the refractive index of liquids within a flow cell or cuvette. In the case of the cuvette, disposable solutions are also considered. The measurement principle will be based on speckle pattern correlation. In addition to classical image sensors, photodiode arrays developed at the CiS Research Institute will also be used. Furthermore, deterministic, i.e. specially calculated optical diffusers made of quartz glass will be used. One possible application is the measurement of the alcohol concentration of spirits during the final inspection of alcoholic beverages.
The research and development work in the “New Refractive Index Sensor” (BZS) project is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
