The 9th Long Night of Science at the CiS Research Institute on 8th November 2024 was another visitor magnet. Young and old started their voyage of discovery punctually at 6 pm to see, marvel and join in.
As always, queues formed to take a look through the scanning electron microscope. Tiny flower pollen, the wing of a dragonfly or electronic components could be viewed at extreme magnification. Bending a horseshoe and measuring your own strength was a real competition.
Many guests tested the LED glasses with integrated light therapy and matching music from the young start-up Healyan in the relax armchair. This therapy is primarily intended to help reduce stress.
The stand of the Aeroclub Arnstadt was literally mobbed. The experience of the evening was sitting in the cockpit of a real microlight aircraft, taking off and landing safely and gently.
Prospective students took the opportunity to find out about careers and courses in STEM subjects at the booths of Ilmenau University of Technology, Schmalkalden University of Applied Sciences and the CiS Research Institute.
The youngest children worked intensively on basic geometric shapes of crystals. In addition to cubes and octahedrons, many small works of art were created that could be taken home.
The great success is also an incentive for the 10th Long Night of Science in 2026.
