The new Mayor of the state capital Erfurt, Andreas Horn, visited our research institute in the south-east of the city last week together with Anastasia Sergan, Head of the Office for Economic Development. During this first visit, Managing Director Thomas Brock, who specializes in the development of high-quality silicon-based microsensors and microsystems, explained in detail the diverse tasks and areas of work of the privately organized, non-profit, business-oriented research institute with around 120 employees. As a founding member of the German Industrial Research Association Konrad Zuse, the CiS Research Institute also acts as a practical and creative source of ideas for German SMEs in order to transform the results of basic research into the value chains of industry.
In addition to getting to know each other personally and gaining an overview of the research institute, they also discussed joint cooperation, in particular which location factors are necessary for an attractive working environment for highly motivated specialists. For example, well-functioning public transport to ensure smooth shift operations, safe and predictable childcare models from nursery to school and science lessons at schools to educate the next generation of STEM specialists are high priorities. Only in this way can Erfurt present itself as a city of industry and science and continue to establish itself. The Long Night of Sciences on 8th November 2024 will also give all interested citizens the chance to get to know the CiS Research Institute. Andreas Horn was also able to experience a small sample during his tour with a look through the scanning electron microscope.
