From 12th August 2024, the CiS Research Institute team cycled for 21 days for a good climate. During the campaign period, a new CiS distance record of 3,394 kilometers cycled was set. The 18 active participants of the CiS team achieved 55th place in the Erfurt city ranking and avoided a whole 563 kilograms of CO2 with their rides. For every 1,000 kilometers cycled, the Erfurt Environment and Nature Conservation Office donated a tree. On October 24, the planting of the cycled trees will take place in Willroder Forst with the award ceremony for the best city cyclists.
City cycling is a Germany-wide campaign that aims to integrate the bicycle more into everyday life as an environmentally friendly means of transportation. Teams cycle as many kilometers as possible within 21 days. The aim of the campaign is to promote climate protection by avoiding CO2 emissions by not using a car. At the same time, it aims to raise awareness of cycling and the need for a bicycle-friendly infrastructure.
The kilometers cycled together are not only a contribution to the environment, but also strengthen team spirit and personal fitness. We are looking forward to 2025 and hope to inspire even more colleagues to take part in city cycling.
