On 23rd June 2023, after a long break, a Science Night was held again at our company. Between 6:00 PM and 11:00 PM, young and old alike were able to take part in guided tours, visit booths, experiment for themselves and quench their thirst for knowledge in conversation with our employees.
A colorful program awaited the guests in the conference room.
How heavy is your name? This task was performed using a commercially available precision analytical balance. Even bending a horseshoe and measuring one’s own strength was a crowd puller. Looking for a diamond, distinguishing minerals – this guessing game thrilled everyone.
The youngest visitors were very enthusiastic about the handicraft table. Here, cubes, tetrads and other geometric bodies were reconstructed with different materials and a lot of patience. Time for the older ones to visit all the booths and discuss.
Also on board was a winner of the IQ Innovation Award Central Germany 2023. The young start-up Healyan developed an inexpensive pair of LED glasses with integrated light therapy, which is primarily intended to support stress reduction. As part of the Thuringian competition “getstartet2gether”, the CiS Research Institute had helped to implement the compact circuit.
Another highlight was the laboratory visit. And always the view through the scanning electron microscope caused great astonishment. Extremely magnified, the tiniest flower pollen, insects or electronic components were shown and how thick a human hair is compared to the structures in microelectronics.
The Long Night of Science was a complete success. Making science understandable in the literal sense will also be the goal of the next Long Night in 2 years.
