In the current edition of the digital event series “Spotlights of Micro- and Nanotechnology” on 7th February 2023 from 9:00 to 11:00 AM, Dr. Martin Schädel, Business Manager MOEMS at CiS Research Institute together with Steffen Biermann, Director of Development & Industrial Engineering at Micro-Hybrid Electronic, will talk about the development “From Microchip to Gas Sensor System”. In the first part, Martin Schädel will go into more detail on “MEMS Technologies for Infrared Components”, followed by Steffen Biermann explaining “NDIR Gas Sensors for Demanding Requirements”.
The special challenges of MEMS components arise from the fragile microstructures that are simultaneously exposed to high temperature changes. For example, the active zone of a MEMS IR emitter is realized within films that are only about 1 µm thin, in which lateral temperature gradients of over 800°C per millimeter can exist during operation. However, even in operation of the sensor systems equipped with them, there are sometimes considerably different requirements with respect to sensory detection limits, environmental conditions or sampling rates. The paper will present important criteria for sensor selection as well as the performance of available platforms for different application scenarios.
The series of events initiated by IVAM takes place every first Tuesday of the month as a Zoom meeting and is aimed at interested parties from the high-tech industry and experts from the fields of business development, research & development, management, project and product development, and technology.
