Impedance sensors are used for the analysis of e.g. air humidity, liquid levels or chemical/biological investigations and are composed of interdigital electrodes (IDE). Possible areas of application are restricted by aggressive media, which is why passivation layers are used to protect the metallization. Synthetic diamond coatings are ideal for this purpose, especially because of their outstanding properties with regard to chemical resistance, biocompatibility and radiation hardness.
The CiS Research Institute will be presenting initial research results on the long-term stability of IDE sensors with diamond passivation in various aggressive media on Friday, 7 March 2019 at the Thüringer Werkstofftag 2019 at the Technical University of Ilmenau.
