Developers and manufacturers of sensor technology, medical technology and bioanalytics met for the 1st workshop in Erfurt on 10 May 2017 to present innovative solutions from microsystems technology in prevention, diagnosis, analytics and therapy and to network interdisciplinarily.
Microsystems technology offers many opportunities and approaches to provide systems that are as tiny, durable and reliable as possible and thus also meets the wishes of medical professionals and patients. The range of topics from respiratory gas measurement to variants of blood pressure measurement, high-precision force measurements in endoscopy to wound monitoring inspired an intensive exchange of ideas.
Various technologies of microsystems engineering as well as diverse assembly and connection techniques provide the basis for successful and creative developments. However, application-specific implementation can only succeed if it also corresponds to the typical handling of medical personnel.
The new regulatory requirements for technological developments in medical technology were also discussed. In addition to the technical parameters, the biocompatibility of the products must be taken into account. Likewise, the body must not impair or damage the medical devices in their function.
Data protection, legal and ethical measures must flank technical developments.
The credo of the participants was clear: this event should definitely be continued in order to jointly implement all the exciting ideas and suggestions into new, innovative applications.
This series of events is organised by CiS e.V., CiS Forschungsinstitut für Mikrosensorik GmbH and medways e.V., the industry association for medical technology/biotechnology.
