Dr Gerrit Heinrich, CiS Forschungsinstitut für Mikrosensorik und Photovoltaik GmbH, won the Young Researcher Award 2014 with his topic “Direct laser ablation of thin silicon nitride layers deposited on silicon by non-linear absorption”.
For the first time, the young scientist succeeded in ablating wafer-thin insulation layers quickly and cost-effectively using ultra-short laser pulses without damaging the underlying puncture layer. The work was done in joint cooperation with the TU Ilmenau. Dr Ortlepp, managing director of the CiS Research Institute, praises the dissertation as an outstanding contribution to the transfer of these theoretical findings into practice-relevant technological processes. Geometric shapes can be used in a targeted manner, e.g. for the development of optoelectronic or optomechanical prototypes.
This prize honours bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral theses with particularly high potential for exploitation. The Deutsche Kreditbank and the Verband innovativer Unternehmen (Association of Innovative Enterprises), as the nationwide representative of the interests of innovative small and medium-sized enterprises, are the donors of the prize money totalling 5000 €.
