The competence triangle “Optical Microsystems” (KD OptiMi), located in the Jena – Ilmenau – Erfurt region, has distinguished itself as an outstanding centre for the innovative combination of optical technologies and microsystems technology within the framework of the funding programme “Top Research and Innovations in the new states”. KD OptiMi documents its particular strength in the combination of university-based basic research with industry-oriented applied research and development. The main players
- Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Institute of Applied Physics (coordinator),
- Technical University of Ilmenau, Institute for Micro- and Nanotechnology IMN MacroNano® and
- CiS Research Institute for Microsensorics and Photovoltaics GmbH,
and the associated partner Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Optics and Precision Engineering Jena are recognised experts in the fields of optics/photonics, micro- and nanotechnology and microsystems technology/optical sensor technology beyond the region. For the CiS Research Institute, KD OptiMi offers the unique opportunity to gain access to the results of basic research, to transfer this knowledge into attractive industry-oriented solutions and thus to provide innovative microsystem technology and micro-optical offers to industry and in particular to SMEs. On the other hand, the proximity of the CiS Research Institute to industry guarantees that the university institutions can recognise and implement the necessities and needs of industry for their own research strategies.
CiS Research Institute was able to successfully build on the results of the first phase of the KD OptiMi project. Within the framework of the platform project “Multifunctional Si detectors”, new fundamental technological concepts were realised, on the basis of which important contributions were made to the subprojects
- Microoptical Accommodation System,
- Green Manufacturing and
- Optoflutronics
could be elaborated. The research work of the CiS Research Institute was oriented towards transferring the knowledge of established technologies to the specific needs for building vertically integrated optical sensor systems.
